Hello! My name is Carlos Rios and I am a 24 year old Computational Media major attending the Georgia Institute of Technology. My interests within my degree program consist of media design, web development, and user interface design, in addition to marketing and advertising. During my college career, I have had amazing opportunities to venture into these particular interests. These include working as a co-op with Georgia-Pacific's information technology team and working closely with the Georgia Tech faculty in advertising academic and study abroad programs. In addition to these opportunities, I have also been able to advance the knowledge I have gained from school and work through numerous media projects for small businesses, organizations, college faculty members, and collegiate programs. It is my goal to use the knowledge and skills I have obtained through school and work to make a positive impact and contribution in whatever I do.
I also feel that having a passion for what you do is imperative to happiness and success. When I first started at Georgia Tech, I was a Nuclear and Radiological Engineering major. After seeing I would not be happy with this career in the future, I decided to switch to International Affairs. Again, I felt that my passion lied elsewhere. During this time of searching for what I really wanted, I stumbled upon Georgia Tech's recently created Computational Media program. After reading the information about it, I knew this was my place. To this day, I do not regret it.
Aside from school and work, my life has been an interesting one. I had been a military child all my life, meaning I was given the opportunity to travel and live in different places, meet new people, and immerse myself into several cultures. I was born in Virginia and have lived in Chicago, New Orleans, Puerto Rico, England, Key West, California (twice), Spain (twice) and Georgia. Moving from place to place every few years has helped me to prepare for the challenges life throws at me.
Currently, I am involved in a variety of research proejcts at Georgia Tech. I am a research assistant for the Center for Young Worker Safety and Health at the Georgia Tech Research Institute and the Design and Intelligence Laboratory at the Georgia Tech School of Interactive Computing. In addition, I am participating in the Space Power Grid research project as a media designer at the Georgia Tech School of Aerospace Engineering. I also do some freelance graphic and web design on the side. If you are in need of some graphic design or website implementation, please feel free to contact me to see what we can arrange.
Sincerely,
